BRITISH HISTORIC RACING NEWSLETTER
Introduction from our Chairman - Gerry Daine
Hello! and welcome to our new newsletter, where you can keep up-to date with all the news and the planned changes within the BHR.
At our AGM in November 2022 I was elected as the new Chairman and I'm looking forward to helping BHR meet the challenges we are facing in the coming year. I'd like to start by saying thanks to all who have been involved and taken part during our 2022 season.
The club relies heavily on volunteer marshals/helpers to enable it to function, for which they receive a nominal sum. It was unanimously agreed at the AGM to increase their remunerations from £10-£15 per day. We are always on the look out for more helpers, so if you feel you could help please make this known.
Sadly I have to announce that we will have to increase the entry fees. This is due to the dramatic increase in both the ACU insurance and the cost of medical cover. We will keep the increase as low as we can.
At the AGM it was proposed and agreed that the current “pre 82 Japanese Air-cooled class” be modified to allow contemporary European machines from the same period to compete head to head. This season will see other changes too, both the BSSO and Earlystocks will be joining our meetings and we are anticipating introducing an 'on line entry application' process (with the exception of test Day)- Watch this space!
We all want to enjoy the coming season’s race meetings and hopefully have a lot of fun, so please read on to remind yourself of key points in making it a safe and enjoyable season.

• The programme is produced with the entries as of closing date and we mix events according to the entries we have. If you are late entering then you might not be entered into the event that you would like, and if you are entered into an event you must start at the back of the grid. Also, your name may not be in the programme.
• It would be appreciated if you could enter the race meetings prior to the closing date and ensure you have fully completed the entry forms correctly. Please remember if you enter late there is a fee of £35.00. If you cancel after the closing date, then you will encounter a £35.00 cancellation fee.
• Please ensure you have the correct licence for your entry i.e. Rider/Scooter Rider/ Sidecar Driver/Scooter Driver/Sidecar Passenger/Scooter Sidecar Passenger/Three Wheel Car Driver/Three Wheel Car Passenger
• If over 70 and parading, please ensure you have a parade licence.
• If you need to ring the Entries Secretary please call before 9.00pm. If no reply, leave a message and she will call back when as soon as possible.
• The 2022 season has revealed a problem with riders attending on their own. If you do attend alone please inform the race office with the location of your vehicle and keys. Also a contact number of who you would like contacting in the event of a fall.
Race day
• Please ensure you have been scrutineered before signing on and you have removed previous BHR scruitineering stickers from your bikes and helmet. Your scrutineering cards will become your practice pass and will be collected from the race office or posted to you.
• Please have your licences and membership cards ready for signing on. If you do not show your membership card then you will incur extra cost as shown in the regulations.
• After signing on you will then need to ensure your transponder number is correct on the sheet.
• Please ensure you arrive in assembly promptly to check your grid position along with giving assembly sufficient time to ensure you have a sticker clarifying your have been scruitineered and noise tested.
• Mounted cameras need to be scrutineered. The form for this is available on the bhronline.uk website, and from the scrutineers. This is passed to the Clerk of Course for authorisation and must be completed prior to using the camera on the circuit. You also need to be aware that footage taken must only be for personal use and not for financial gain. Race Circuits have their own rules regarding the use of cameras so if in doubt contact the circuit.
• As you are all aware there is a shortage of scrutineers, office staff and marshals. If you could all try and bring someone who can help out, if necessary, it would be appreciated. Any offer of help running a race meeting would be appreciated and there are all sorts of roles you may be able to help with.
• We are also seeking a volunteer to help with regalia. You will need to have a vehicle to transport the regalia, somewhere to store the regalia when away from the circuit and be able to man the regalia stand for the duration of the race weekend.
• At all circuits, all machines must be noise tested prior to entering the race circuit. Please attend noise testing in order of practice sessions which are usually showing on your on the day briefing or final instructions.
• Results are available in the race office at a minimum cost of 20p per sheet. Please remember this is to benefit any riders that are injured by the donation being made to the Su Berg box.
• During a meeting if you are called to the race office or to see the Clerk of Course please come as soon as possible as this may stop you from going out in your next race.
• Due to the ACU and VMCC now only producing paper/digital licences, to enable you to collect your transponder please bring photo ID i.e. driving licence.
• Please remember to return your transponders to the race office at the end of the weekend to get your photo ID back
• Your licence will not be returned until the transponder is received by H S Sports and they will charge you if they need to replace a transponder.
• As you may be aware last year the race insurance was increased by 40% and it is increasing this year by a further 8%. Some of this rise is due to a number of accidents on the start line/warm up lap. Please remember this is a warm up, NOT a racing lap.
Paddock behaviour
• If you have a problem, please be polite. You may be excluded from the meeting if you or any members of your party are abusive to an official or marshal.
• If your attend the race meeting by yourself with children please advise the race office of this in order for plans to be put into place in case of an incident.
• Please consider the people around you. If you wish to have a party, please set up in a remote area of the paddock.
• Please switch off your generators and music by 11.00pm.
• You are all aware that you may be breathalysed at a race meeting. Whilst we are not here to spoil your enjoyment please be sensible if you are racing the next day.
• Use of paddock bikes and scooters is not allowed. If you, or a member of your party, are seen on a bike, these could be confiscated until the end of the race meeting. The riding of scooters and paddock bikes needs to be stopped 15 mins prior to racing to 15 mins post racing.
• When riding your machine in the paddock you need to ensure you are wearing your crash helmet. If you are riding around without your crash helmet, then you may be fined with the payment going into the Sue Berg box. You may also be fined if you are found riding around the paddock with children on the bikes.
• Please be aware that there are children and members of the public in the paddock. Please ride at a sensible speed and do not use paddock roads as a test area. Circuit staff may eject you from the circuit.
